MX is the new BMX

The Daytona Supercross was this weekend. It was a great race to watch. James Stewart holeshotted, pulled the front brakes too hard into the first turn, and wadded himself and several others up. His bike was jacked (he picked up the wrong Yamaha initially), his visor was broken off and he came from dead last to seventh place. James is the man.

This is a pivotal moment in the race, where Rookie Jason Lawerance takes over the lead on the "single". This big jump was going into a turn, which reminded me of a turn at the Plainwell BMX track back in the early 80s. The jump at Plainwell was probably a foot tall, but every time I hit it I would drift wide in the last part of the turn. After numerous practice (and race) laps, I came to realize that if I pointed my bars to the inside of the turn as I was leaving the jump (just like Jason is doing here) I would stay there all the way around. I still utilize this technique, especially at Birdland... "J Law" was eventually overtaken by Chad Reed, who rode great (that's a tough statement for me to make--I'm not a fan of the dude).

I got a lot of work done on the XS project, including fabbing a V-bar crossbar for my Biltwell bars. This is the kind of tinkering I like to do (not F-ing carb rebuilds!)...

That race was awesome! I stayed home all day to watch it live. It did not disappoint.
