I got the new Dig yesterday and it is great as always. In it there is an article about I Love My Bicycle, the documentary about FBM and an interview with the creator, Joe Stakun. I had never met Joe, but he contacted me about an interview in the fall of 07 (I think that's when it was). He stopped here in Michigan for a couple of hours to record me rambling about FBM and BMX in general. The crazy thing is that he had left his home in Philly a few days earlier, then went to Ohio, then Kansas City, then drove up to talk to me before heading home to Philly. All done in his Grandpa's Roadmaster (where he slept), eating Spaghetti-Os out of a can. That is just one example of the kind of dedication Joe put into this movie. I've had an early copy for a couple months and it is really good. It covers the complete history of FBM, from the bedroom of a teenaged Crandall's parent's house to the big move last year in Johnson City. I Love... recently deputed at the Bicycle Film Festival in New York (same place as the East Coast premier of Joe Kid on a Stingray) and is making the rounds on the independent film circuit. I can't wait to see the finished product. I hope I'm still in the final edit--I'm told some of the "dead dialogue" has been cut out.
